Welcome to the Link Alliance TBM
Follow our journey
The Link Alliance Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) is named Dame Whina Cooper after a truly ground-breaking Kiwi and is the star of the City Rail Link (CRL) project. The machine’s hard work will forever alter how people travel around Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
Custom-made for the CRL, the Dame Whina Cooper TBM has three jobs: to excavate, line and remove the spoil for the new tunnels.
The journey started in China, where the TBM was manufactured and was then shipped to Auckland. After launching from our Mt Eden construction site, it is now constructing twin tunnels from Maungawhau (Mt Eden) to Karanga a Hape (Karangahape) and Te Waihorotiu (Aotea) stations.
The City Rail Link will be transformative, changing how we travel around Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, and the journey of the Dame Whina Cooper TBM is a big part of its construction. Follow the TBM's journey here where we'll share information about it and the people making it happen.
